Keen-eyed parishioners may have noticed that we have 8 new electric vehicle (EV) chargers in our village. Six are outside Hanley Castle school in Church End. Two further EV chargers are sited in the new car park of the Albion Lodge retirement home and Albion Meadows in Roberts End, Hanley Swan. Both sites offer public charging facilities, meaning that you don't have to have any link with the establishments in order to charge your vehicle using their facilities. The user pays for the electricity used via a smart phone app or by linking to the EV supplier's website, again via smartphone. Here is the technical lowdown.
Top tips:
You must bring your own charging cable. This ensures you can rely on the cable working. These facilities are not rapid charge facilities, which are more often found at fuelling stations and motorway services.
If you plan to use the chargers only occasionally, just scan the QR code on the chargers which will take you to their website. Enter your debit/ credit card details and then you can charge your vehicle. If you plan to use the charger more regularly, download the app first , create an account and link your bank details. This will allow you to track usage etc.
How quickly you can charge your EV will depend on the size of your battery. A plug-in hybrid will charge faster.
Albion Lodge has 2 Charge Assist EV chargers. They are 7 kw chargers. These are available for public use at any time. You can leave your vehicle to charge (subject to availability). The public charging rate is available on the charge assist network.
Hanley Castle High School: Monta/ ROLECEV: 6 x 7.4kWh chargers are available for public use Mon-Thurs 4pm – 7am then from 4pm on a Friday straight through to 7am on the Monday. The public rate is currently 47p Kw/h.
